So at this moment, we have discarded sailboats sails propelling a new, sustainable fashion trend. While just a few days ago we told you about Shanti yoga mat carriers that utilized discarded sailboat sail parts, now folks at Windbag Company seem to have caught the green contagion as they create notebook covers, duffel bags, shave kits, yoga-mat bags and messenger bags using the same material.
Pauline Dickison, owner of Windbag Company, gathers broken and old sails from sailors and repair shops and hands the material over to local seamstresses for washing, cutting and sewing. At her workshop in a 1950s car dealership, Pauline has converted more than 225,000 kg of sail cloth into one-of-their-kind bags.
Pauline has been in this business since 2006. Through her green venture, she provides a fresh lease of life to the ruined material, aside from offering her recycled sailboats sail bags as decent yet fashionable accessories.
