Flu Vaccination at Health Center

Get relieved from the fear of flu infections in Schiffert Health Center. It is again offering flu shots this year. On November 7 from 11 a.m. to 8 pm, immunizations against influenza, along with meningitis and hepatitis are being given at Squires Commonwealth Ballroom. College life might contribute to the local risk of influenza. The influenza vaccine this year is $23, an increase from last year’s price of $17. According to the Center for Disease Control website, certain people should get vaccinated each year. These include those over 50, pregnant women, those with chronic heart or lung conditions, and those with AIDS, chronic kidney disease and diabetes and children who are 6 months to 23 months old. For students who choose not to get the flu shot, the CDC has a few recommendations such as washing hands often, avoiding close contact with those who are sick, avoiding touching eyes, mouth and nose, and staying home when sick. Three prescription antiviral medications-amantadine, rimantadine and oseltamivir-are approved for use in preventing the flu, according to the CDC’s website.
