El Anatsui’s Pot of Wisdom revolves around found metals and copper wire

El Anatsui is an avid recycler and a gifted artist whose works focus on endowing discarded stuff with sparkle and life. At the Jack Shainman Gallery, New York City, the artist is currently displaying amazing tapestries made from trashed liquor bottle caps, found metals and copper wires. The sculptural works of art will be on display at Pot of Wisdom gallery through January 19, 2013.

Each of the highly detailed tapestry masterpieces involves impeccable imagination, creativity and patience on the artist’s part. Contrary to what you might be thinking about his art, Anatsui uses drywall screws to attach individual pieces together, aside from folding them to achieve the desired shape. The largest sculpture, dubbed Broken Bridge II, is such a massive installation that no gallery in the entire world can accommodate it. So, one could see it adorning the façade of the gallery even after the exhibition ends. As DesignMilk points it out, the giant sculpture will keep entertaining onlookers through this summer.
