To add to the prolonged healing of the ozone hole, frigid temperatures in Europe and very cold air in the stratosphere have created a mini hole in its layer above the Netherlands. Unlike the large hole over Antarctica this hole will last a few days and is a different phenomenon from the earlier, which lasts several months. The Dutch national weather service informed this, as reported by Expatica News and the Netherlands’ national news agency ANP.
A new temperature has been recorded here by a weather balloon above the Netherlands, which is as low as -86.8 Celsius. The chemical balance of the air currents is affected by the extreme cold. If low-lying clouds allow, Polar Stratospheric Clouds will be visible. It’s a rare sight in the Netherlands.
