Delighting for the tourists and the residents there, and surprising for the environmental experts! What to watch a big group of dolphins frolicking in the waters? Make a trip to the bays and harbors off East Hampton and Shelter Island.
In the past three days, an estimated 40 of these marine mammals are spotted there. Dan Rizzie, 55, of Sag Harbor said,
We heard them click and blow through their holes. Its amazing.
Though Dolphins have been seen off Long Island before, the animals were usually fewer and their visits more fleeting, according to the experts. Kim Durham, director of the rescue program at the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation said,
Its very unusual to see this many of them in the bays and that they have stayed here this long.
