Rainfall impacts continental plates' movement deep under the earth

impact of rainfall

It is beneath the mountain ranges the continental plates are active. And their movements are effected directly by rainfall on the land’s surface. Yes, the erosion caused by rainfall is also responsible for the movements. A University of Toronto geophysicist claims this.

Russell Pysklywec, a professor of geology says,

In geology, we have this idea that erosion’s going to affect merely the surface.

So can we say, climate change induced by human could eventually affect the workings of the planet deep inside its heart?

The study appears on the cover of The April issue of Geology publish this finding as a cover story. The study was funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and Lithoprobe.
