Yet, another discovery from the diverse unexplored wildernesses – it is a new type of cricket. The new species of the insect is found in the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. It is located on the Utah-Arizona border, in a remote strip of land.
It is not just this new genus of cricket discovered. To add to the amazement, four more new species of crickets have been identified from the spring samples. A barklouse was also found in the caves fort he first time in North America, though it is common in South America.
Thanks to Kyle Voyles, a state of Arizona cave coordinator and a physical science technician with the Bureau of Land Management, and J. Judson Wynne, a Northern Arizona University doctoral candidate for making the discovery from a spring sample taken from the area.
