Japan does not seem to lag behind in taking a constructive initiative to fight global warming along with the soaring oil prices. Banking on their home-made technology, it requires that all road vehicles be able to run on an eco-friendly mix of ethanol and regular gasoline by 2030, according to an official.

According to the new policy, the Environment Ministry adopted this month; all new cars are to be able to run on a blend of 10 percent ethanol and 90 percent gasoline. And this should start in 2010, Takeshi Sekiya, an official at the ministry’s global warming division said. The costs and its implementation are still being studied.
