Hurricane Wilma Threatens Gulf of Mexico

After the corals in the Caribbean are pulverized by the warm seas that fuelled hurricanes Rita and Katrina, it’s the turn for the people in its northwestern parts. On Tuesday, the tropical storm Wilma verged on the Cayman Islands at 160km per hour, threatening western Cuba, Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and Florida, as it gathered strength cutting its path through. The storm has already claimed a life in Jamaica on Sunday. If by Thursday the winds reach 200km per hour, Wilma was likely to become a Category 3 hurricane, as forecasters demand.
As weather patterns concur to thrust Hurricane Wilma toward the southern Gulf of Mexico, Southwest Florida emergency officials plans for possible evacuations and shelter. The Lee County Commission too advocated a seven-day state of local emergency, as the county was in the storm’s five-day cone of uncertainty.
So, the six-month tribulations of the hurricane seasons did not come to an end. The list of storm names for 2005 has been exhausted by Wilma.
