Tree-nation, a Barcelona based company has come up with a great idea. You could buy a tree online and become a guardian of that tree. They have chosen Niger, a poor African country to plant 8 million trees in the shape of a giant heart.
You can use the interactive map to navigate the park and choose an exact spot to plant your tree or trees. With GPS coordinates your virtual tree corresponds to a real tree planted in the eco-park in Niger, so you and the whole world can always find it.
The idea is to regenerate the soil so that the land’s productivity is increased. In this way deforestation is counteracted and desertification is stopped. The project will benefit local populations in terms of welfare, education and farming practices.
There are four types of trees to choose from and the price ranges from €10 – €75 each. There is a detailed explanation of the characters of the trees, their uses and how beneficial they are in the project.
