EU Reviewing Ban on Bird Imports

Bird flu have plagued Asia and recently to Europe. A strain of bird flu has killed a parrot in quarantine. According to the British Government the strain is the deadly H5N1. Resisting calls to ban all pet-bird imports so far, the EU has decided to ban on imports of wild birds into the 25-nation bloc after discovering this incident. The EU previously resisted the ban, as it feared that the ban could create a black market, increasing the threat of infected birds being smuggled in. According to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, scientists determined that the parrot, imported from South America, died of the strain of avian flu. And it is the flu that has devastated poultry stocks and killed 61 people in Asia the past two years.
