China is the world’s top fishing nation and has vast resources available. It is the largest fishery producer in the world and has the largest number of fishing boats. Controlling the state of Yangtze River and protection of marine resources endangered by over fishing has been the focus of china government for which many steps have been taken, banning fishing boats for three months is one of them.

But fishing resources have dwindled significantly in the country because of years of over-fishing and water pollution. China has adopted measures to control the number of fishing boats from 1991. Conservatism of aquatic resources is the main reason behind the ban on fishing by the government. The Yangtze River is regarded as

Cradle of China’s freshwater fishery and a valuable bank of fish genes.

Fishing in Yangtze River has increased a lot which is making the number of fish in the river dangerously low for some species. In central Hubei province and Chongqiung Municipality the fishing boats will be banned from trawling. This will affect the fishermen class and they will have to look for another option to earn their living.

While the Chinese government is laying stress on banning of fishing boats the environmental experts are accusing government for not taking steps for the reduction of water pollution which should be the focus. They are of view that if environmental disruption is not taken into consideration the natural capital of China will be affected.

Environmental issue (lack of clean water) is mainly stressed in developing countries today. For the past several years, China has been affected with the water pollution crisis. The environment is severely damaged in places due to water pollution. With the continuation of untreated wastewater being discharged into the water systems, the ecosystem will continue to degrade at a fast rate.
