Blame environment for the rising childhood Leukemia cases?

advanced stage of leukemia

Childhood leukemia has increased five-fold since the early 1900s! And the scientists are blaming pesticides or chemicals in the environment as the main culprits behind it.

Though compared to 40-50 years ago, fewer children actually die from blood cancer now, leukemia-cases have increased about one percent per year in the last half century! And, this represents a five-fold increase, according to Professor Michel Coleman of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Children are thought to be predisposed to the illness at birth by an unknown factor that occurs in the womb. But, eventually they do not develop it unless it is triggered by causes, that are yet unknown.

The possible environmental-culprits that trigger the disease are ionising radiation, electromagnetic fields, viruses, infections, chemicals and pesticides.
