Battery-Powered Bicycles to Visit Cambodia's Angkor Complex

Historical places are said to be deteriorating throughout the world. The major and the common reason found is pollution. But, few could find effective remedies to it, if they have tried and could just reduce it to an extent. But in this regard, the Cambodian government needs applause. The government began offering 300 battery-powered bicycles for tourists to rent while visiting the world-famous Angkor archaeological park, Cambodia’s main tourist attraction. The government’s efforts are aimed to reduce noise and pollution in and around the country’s majestic former capital. The bicycles are rented out during daylight hours for US$4 (euro3.4) per visit to the sprawling 12th century complex. There are 14 repair stations within the park where tourists can have bicycles fixed or their batteries recharged. It serves a paradigm in heritage site preservation efforts.
