Need to be barbaric to grow economy? With the growing demands for shark fin delicacies across the world, and to meet the business ends of several food industries, a median of about 38 million sharks a year is being killed mercilessly for a momentary pampering of the taste buds and salivation.

According to a report by National Geographic News, although the United Nations has provided an estimation of only about ten million sharks being harvested each year, some conservationists have put the number at closer to a hundred million!

If it is true, does this suggest that United Nations is trying to cover-up the magnitude of the crimes committed by the merciless, indiscriminate money-hankering food industries?

To build in more suspicion, it has been found that most fisheries-management groups give little attention to sharks, considering them as bycatches given their low value per pound!
