New Zealand government has caught Japan on film slaughtering whales in an area that is an internationally declared whale sanctuary.
Conservation Minister Chris Carter
released the footage yesterday at a press conference in Auckland. It shows Japanese whaling fleet of three, harpooning, hauling and processing whales in the Ross Sea. Moreover they had research painted on the ships.
Mr Carter is quoted to have asked:
Is it science or is it butchery?
Japan plans to kill up to 1000 whales for what they claim is scientific research. The list includes minke whales and endangered fin whales. Next year they are planning to include include 50 fin whales and 50 humpback whales in their slaughter list.
Greenpeace has been known to frustrate the killing efforts by maneuvering its inflatable boats between the harpoon and the whale. Hope fully these images will push to mount pressure against whale slaughter.
