The Indian state of Kerala has decided to celebrate the Wildlife Week next month by paying tribute to the legendary Australian crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin. The Kerala Forest Ministry will name the state-run crocodile breeding centre after the famous television legend, who recently met with a tragic death by a stingray barb while filming a documentary off north Queensland.

The Crocodile Breeding Centre at Neyyar would be dedicated to the memory of the icon — though have raised controversies — who had made valuable contribution in conserving wildlife.

The government had also planned to renovate the Centre by bringing in better facilities, the Kerala Forest Minister Benoy Viswam said.
