At least four people killed and 36 others injured in Algeria, as an earthquake measuring 5.0 shook the state. But, Algerian radio reported in its evening bulletin that seven people had been killed according to one eyewitness.
In the town of Laalam in the province of Bejaia, about 300km (190 miles) east of the capital, Algiers, some 30 houses are said to have collapsed. Adding that rescue operations were under way, the radio reported that the earthquake struck at 2044 (1944 GMT). The epicentre of the tremor was located near the town of Kherrata, between the cities of Bejaia and Setif.
