A calf with two faces

calf 557Star has been drawing curious visitors from the time she is born (Dec 27th), sometimes 50 per day.

Dairyman Kirk Heldreth had considered donating the calf to Virginia Tech for scientific purposes, or even selling her for show.

But now, things have changed and his family have grown too attached to her to let her become a display piece.

Star, the calf was born with two faces, with one upper jaw and two lower jaws. While otherwise normal, it is believed that she would have to be tube-fed. Heldreth is not sure whether she will be able to eat feed like a normal heifer.

“The unique thing about (Star) is she’s got the will to survive more than any calf I’ve ever seen,” Heldreth says.

Like us, the animals too have spirit to attempt to survive at all odds.
