Yuya Ushida makes Collapsible XXXX_SOFA using 8,000 recycled plastic sticks

Designer Yuya Ushida has come up with a convertible furniture item made from 8,000 intertwined sticks, further created from recycled PET bottles. Ushida first created the design with bamboo sticks while he was studying at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Netherlands. The unique expandable seating system, dubbed as Collapsible XXXX_SOFA, takes its inspiration from marvels of engineering like the Eiffel Tower. The sofa, that snaps 2000 rings with 8000 sticks, can be converted into a stool with extreme ease.

The designer has been quite successful in bringing out the beauty of his complex Sofa/Stool unit by utilizing just four different lengths of sticks, rings and joints in a regular pattern. Since it can be contracted, you can carry it anywhere. Moreover, Ushida makes sure that his creation involves no use of glass fiber. Aside from using it as a durable furniture, people may enjoy its geometrical structure as well.
