Yellowstone River: It's the 2nd 'most endangered'

It is the second ‘most endangered river’ in the United States. Yes, I am talking about the Yellowstone River in Park County, Mont. The 80-mile stretch of the river’s development in the Upper floodplain is risking the new homes and the waterway’s wild quality, according American Rivers, a conservation group.

Development needs to be guided in a way that it can protect the river, avoiding jeopardizing people living around it. And the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Park County officials are urged by the report to take necessary steps.

Rebecca Wodder, president of American Rivers, said in a statement,

The Yellowstone River is a national treasure, but building these homes right on the river sets the table for massive bank stabilization and flood control projects in the future, and wrecks the very reason people want to live there in the first place.
