Wilma Killed 13: Still Rampages through Mexico's Caribbean

The massive hurricane Wilma has rampaged through Mexico’s Caribbean beach resorts today. The Cat 4 hurricane battered the Yucatan peninsula yesterday threatening heavy damage and loss of life, and it is expected to begin hitting the heavily populated southern Florida as early as tomorrow. The most intense hurricane ever seen in the Atlantic has already killed at least 13 people in the Caribbean, and it may still rise the toll.

Winds of 140 miles an hour howled in off the sea, knocking over houses, upturning trees and trapping thousands of tourists in cramped shelters. The second-strongest category of hurricane poured down 23 inches of rain on the Isla Mujeres Island, an unprecedented downpour for Mexico. The 10-foot giant pounded the beach resorts and dozens of fishing hamlets sending crashing water over Cancun’s white-sand beaches and into its exclusive hotel district.
