Washington will Soon Lead the Nation in Bio-Fuels

bio fuels stationThe Energy Security through Renewable Fuels law in Washington State passed its final legislative hurdle and it is now ready for the governor’s signature. By Nov. 1 2008, the law would require 2% bio-diesel in diesel and 2% ethanol unleaded.

In addition to this, the law allows state agencies to meet the Ultra Low Sulfur diesel requirements. And the requirements are to be met by blending bio-diesel. The also mandates by 2009 all state fleets to use 20% bio-diesel.

There are provisions for the bio-diesel mandate. When there are enough feedstock crops in the state it can be increased to 5%, and to provide 3% from in-state production. Congrats Washington for being the leader still!
