U.S., Australia Pledge US$127 Million to Promote Reducing Global Warming

Reduce greenhouse gas emissions 30 percent by 2050! Yes, that is what the six of the world’s biggest polluters endorsed during the ongoing Sydney meet. But, are they sounding practical or are just making it a platform to benefit big businesses. This comment can be strongly corroborated by the United States’ and Australia’s pledge for a combined US$127 million (euro105 million) to help finance the six-nation Asia Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate.

Though they avoided setting targets for reducing emissions, the partnership’s plan calls for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by promoting renewable energy sources and cleaner ways to use coal. The group also consists of rapidly expanding, energy-hungry nations China and India, and also South Korea and Japan. These six countries alone can produce half of the greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.
