Tiny 'Cages' Could Help Stop Climate Change by Trapping Carbon Dioxide

Sub-seabed storage of carbon dioxide produced by fossil-fuelled power
stations can now be secured! It is a natural physical process that has
been identified and it could play a key role in helping check global
warming or climate change.

It is found that in some conditions, seawater and carbon dioxide could
combine into ice-like compounds in which the water molecules form
cavities act as cages, and trap the carbon dioxide molecules. It sounds
interesting! A team at the Centre for Gas Hydrate Research, at
Heriot-Watt University is investigating on it with EPSRC funding.
