The Western Climate Action Initiative: An agreement by five western states to reduce gas emissions

governors2 1822
Governors of five Western States (Oregon, California, Washington, New Mexico, and Arizona) have agreed on the plan to cut their states’ emissions of gases linked to global warming and to establish the regional carbon trading system. The agreement is called Western Climate Action Initiative.

To lower the carbon emissions regional targets will be set within six months and year after that regional cap-and-trade system will be devised which will allow the polluters to buy and sell green house gas pollution credits. However, it is not stated clearly that how much CO2 emissions will be cut and how soon.

Colorado is not yet participating in the regional effort, although the state has been designated an observer of the joint effort.

State conservation groups including Environment Colorado, Environmental Defense, and Western Resource Advocates support the Western Climate Action Initiative and urge Colorado to play a growing role in regional efforts to combat global warming.
