Synthetic Wheat to Combat Drought, Disease and Changing Climate

synthetic wheat

With drought and disease engulfing the world gradually, the fear of wheata’s losing its survival battle is growing. But, scientists did not leave us disappointed. We rightly, relied on them as they found out a way to keep on supplying the world’s daily bread.

The scientists clearly and strongly felt, unless something drastic is done, climate change, disease and drought will ravage the crop — the main source of food for 2 billion people. The emerging strategy to save wheat from oblivion involves neither genetic engineering nor subtle changes to farming techniques.

The plant, instead, is being recreated over again from scratch. And test plantings of this “synthetic” wheat are raising hopes along with its success. They should and will be resilient enough to feed billions of people well into the next century.
