Supreme Court to Decide Far-Reaching Wetland Cases

Suburbias are creeping on the northern fringe of metropolitan Detroit. Keith Carabell has been fighting for two-decade to build condominiums on the property. The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday will hear arguments on it. John Rapanos, a Michigan landowner’s case will also be considered by the court. After he illegally filled wetlands with dirt, his feud with regulators led to a criminal conviction.

Dozens of interest groups have filed briefs in the cases. Once resolved, it could affect millions of acres of swamps, marshes and bogs across the U.S. But, will the Supreme Court veer rightward on environmental issues with the arrivals of Justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito?
