Southern hemisphere to experience significantly higher UV radiation this summer!

for the southern hemisphere 9

It happened at the all-time high of the summer of 1998-1999! After that, it is again predicted that this summer, ultraviolet radiation in the southern hemisphere will be significantly higher!

The New Zealand National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research has analyzed to find that the spring at the southern hemisphere have a overall record low ozone period.

This year, springtime ozone amounts in the southern hemisphere’s middle (30°-60° S) and high (60°-90° S) latitudes have been lower compared to any other year, since satellite observations began in 1979.

The Antarctic ozone hole reached near-record proportions this year, as reported by the U.N. World Meteorological Organization. Explaining that the predicted peak ultraviolet index (UVI) varies from place to place, NIWA scientist Richard McKenzie said,

Where I’m based at Lauder in Central Otago [on New Zealand’s South Island], we expect that the peak UVI will be close to 12, averaged over the five highest UV days in each summer month (December, January, and February).
