Soft drinks are found to have traces of a carcinogenic chemical. And it is at eight times the level permitted in drinking water, as revealed recently.
Tests have been conducted in Britain and France on 230 drinks on sale. And these have identified high levels of benzene, a compound known to cause cancer, according to the Food Standards Agency. In British drinking water, there is a legal limit of one part per billion of benzene. But, astonishingly and shockingly, the latest tests revealed levels of up to eight parts per billion in some soft drinks.
Do you know, Benzene has been linked to leukaemia and other cancers of the blood?! 15 years ago, more than 160 million bottles were withdrawn worldwide, after traces have been found in Perrier water.
