Recycling cans for a creative and green garden décor

Much of our food products like milk, coffee, jams, pickles, salted fish, drinks and chocolates come in cans. After a period of collecting them and using them for storing, we know not what to do with them and simply throw them away with trash. But these cans have a few more years to live and using your ingenuity and dexterity, you can create some eye catching decoration items for your gardens. Let us have a look at some of the ideas you can experiment with yourself.

Metal cans planters

Take some metal cans. Puncture their walls at multiple points with nails and hammer, or using a drill machine to create air spaces. Do the same on the base of the can as well. This will make the can drainable. Remove the cover of the can and fill the can up with soil. You can paint the cans if it fancies you to do so. Your mini- pots are ready for the plants to go in.

Can flowers

Flowers made from the beer and soft drink cans make for interesting decoration motifs in garden. Take a can and cut around its upper side until the whole plate is removed. Now cut five slits on the walls of the can right down to the base. Flatten the stripes in the shape of a sun disc. Round out the edges of these stripes. Now take another can and after cutting away the top of the can, cut multiple thin strips along the walls down to the base. Flatten them too.

Now you have an option of placing either of the cans atop the other by securing the base of the two tightly together with some strong adhesive. Take a wire and after puncturing a hole on the base of the two with a nail, tuck in a strong wire. Make use of the cork of a soft drink to cover the point on which the wire is attached the flower. Your amazing can flower is ready.

Figures

Figures

Take some cans and cut them from the top and bottom. Slit them vertically and then flatten them. Now draw humans, animal or bird figure on them. Cut these figures out using aviation knives or craft-knife along the lines drawn. Place these figures at appropriate places as in a flowerpot or amid the plants in flowerbed or simply string them from the trees.

Lanterns

Draw lines on the outer wall of the cans in geometrical or in floral pattern. Punch in holes along these lines with the help of a thin nail. These holes will let in air to keep the candle inside going and will in turn spread out light along the pattern outside. You can even suspend these cans from the trees and put wired bulbs inside them.

Bird feeders and birdhouses

Else, you can place them in secluded places of the garden away from human activity and threat from the predators. Small birds like sparrows will gradually take in home in them.
