Rain bearing spring leads to mosquito explosion: California fears

mosquito breeding

Rain bearing spring is good for the environment in many ways, but not always for health. With the spring pouring in rains in California, it left the city ripe for a ‘mosquito explosion’. Be it the drainage ditch, an empty flowerpot, or an old tyre filled with water, there are several places for these hardy pests to lay their eggs.

The state and local mosquito abatement officials fear the repetition of what happened here last year. 19 people were killed California of West Nile virus, a mosquito spreading serious disease last year.

Kriss Costa, a spokeswoman for the Santa Clara County Vector Control District said, The situation right now is prime for a heavy mosquito season, and that means a higher likelihood of more cases of West Nile virus… We’re extremely concerned.
