PGMA Stresses Managing Natural Resources, Protecting Environment

Sustainable development is required to improve the quality of life of the present and future generations. And for this, managing the natural resources and protecting the environment is necessary. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo feels exactly this, and ventilated her views in an address before the 27 university students of the first Asia-Pacific Eco-Minds Forum. The Arroyo Government claims that it is replanting its mangroves and implementing fish sanctuaries. It is also encouraging inter-cropping by planting fruit bearing trees and high value vegetables on the floor of forest plantation. According to her, to “preserve rivers and other fresh water sources and begin to restore previous ecological balance to solve our drinking water needs and to solve our drinking water and irrigation water needs and to solve destructive and costly flooding problems”, the government is prioritizing the replanting of watersheds.
