Global warming may benefit salmon! After a series of finding about the destructive results the earth may witness, especially when it comes to the mass extinction of species, how can it favor the salmon alone? As the Reuters reports, scientists claim that the Norwegian river salmons may benefit from global warming by causing more rainfall that dilutes industrial acids blown from other parts of Europe. In the past, a spring thaw used to wash out large amounts of poisonous nitrates accumulated in winter snows, according to a study by the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA). But in the past 20-30 years, climate change means that more precipitation falls as rain, washing nitrates more evenly around the year into rivers and curbing a spring surge when salmon smolt are most vulnerable to poisoning. This conclusion is made, as the smolts are extremely sensitive during the spring. And if the acidification is reduced it will benefit the smolt, i.e. a young salmon at the stage when it migrates from fresh water to the sea.
