Newly Discovered Crustacean Resembles Furry Lobster

furry lobsterHey, it resembles a lobster! A team of American-led divers has discovered it in the South Pacific. They must have discovered a new crustacean. It is covered with what looks like silky, blond fur, French researchers said Tuesday.

Scientists named the animal Kiwa hirsute. They said the crustacean was so distinct from other species that they created a new family and genus for it. 7,540 feet deep in the waters, the divers found the animal at a site 900 miles south of Easter Island last year, according to Michel Segonzac of the French Institute for Sea Exploration.

The National Museum of Natural History in Paris has described the new crustacean.
