Migratory Birds to Get Tracked

Now, cell phones for the birds too! Are they supposed to entertain us with their dulcet murmurs? Not exactly, but for a better cause. May have been inspired by shark-tracking, ornithologists and engineers at Oregon State University have come up with an innovative idea to track migratory birds’ travel route. They have planned to strap the songbirds with tiny mobile phones monitoring their migration with unprecedented accuracy.

The little devices after being attached to the birds, will share unique identification numbers with cell towers, the moment they pass each within range. The Network service providers sitting at the other end will note the ID numbers, the specific towers contacted and the time when contact was made.
