Jellyfish-like creatures responsible for ocean's rising temperatures!

The low member in the ocean food web — the jellyfish-like creatures called salps – can be blamed for contributing more to the fate of ocean’s greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, than previously thought.

May be about the size of a human thumb, these salps are swarming by the billions in ‘hot spots’. These may be capable of transporting tons of carbon from the ocean surface to the deep sea each day, keeping it from re-entering the atmosphere! And that is pretty dangerous, trapping the heat in the ocean floor. These findings are reported in the May issue of Deep Sea Research.
