Israeli bombing killed the whole Lebanese shoreline-facing marine ecosystem: Yaacoub Sarraf

environmental disaster in med

With the devastating effects of fierce fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, who has bothered to concentrate on the gruesome after-effects of it on the environment and the health of the people who would be living in there? The guns may fall silent, people start healing from the trauma and injuries received from the battle, the environmental effects would be long-term.

According to the UN, the Israeli bombing led to an oil spill that has created an environmental disaster. Two weeks ago — after Israeli warplanes hit a coastal power plant — some 110,000 barrels of oil poured into the Mediterranean, which has already killed the whole marine ecosystem facing the Lebanese shoreline. The country’s environment minister Yaacoub Sarraf fears the whole surrounding ecosystem can change severely.
