Indonesia quake: UN plans six-month quake relief of $100m

The devastation caused by the 6.3 magnitude quake, hitting the ancient city of Yogyakarta, needs at least six-month relief operation to gather up themselves and reassemble their homes. Thinking on these lines, the United Nations has planned a six-month relief operation costing more than $100m, according to UN officials.

According to the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs, more than half of this relief aid should be spent on housing. What is needed at this juncture is to prevent the spread of infection. For this, the people should immediately be removed from the crowded hospitals.

As many quake survivors believe last the disaster of Saturday was a warning from God, a local merchant Iskak, 40, told the French news agency AFP,
