Heat wave in US kills at least six

emergency on heat waveAt least six deaths are killed by the sweltering heat in Arizona and California this week. This includes a nursing home resident, who died after the air conditioning system there failed. In downtown Los Angeles, 99-degree temperatures broke the 96-degree record set in 1960.

Over the weekend, in Arizona, record-breaking temperatures may have killed two transient men in Phoenix. Soaring temperatures in much of the Southwest have thrown the air conditioners out of gear throughout California.

The use of electricity has increased causing blackouts throughout the state. More than 50,000 Southern California homes and businesses were left without power on Sunday afternoon.

Power company officials said it could be another day before power is restored. Can we call it, a gruesome effect of global warming across the world?
