Guide to defining the focal point of your room

focal-point-of-your-room

When you step into the beautifully decorated living room, you notice the focal point first, ignoring all the other objects in the room. The focal point can be anything – a fireplace, a painting or your smart TV mounted on the wall. Your focal point is the decor element around which the rest of your decor is arranged, including the furniture. The main decorative element in the room should be strong enough to take the attention away from the decorative features which are not so attractive. Here are some ways you can define the focal point of your room:

Already existing focal point

focal-point-of-your-roomYour living room may already have a focal point which might be accentuated by a strong decor element of the room. Window/s which let in natural light, allows you to see the beautiful landscape or the city’s skyline. The fireplace, a beautiful brick wall can be a focal point as well. High ceilings, French doors, mantels, are all architectural highlights which can be designated as focal points. Dress up the architectural feature, for example, if you choose the fireplace as the main focal point, you can flank it with large bookcases and hang a beautiful painting over the fireplace.

Be bold with color

Bold colors can draw attention to whatever you want to highlight. You can paint the ceiling in a striking red color and dark molding elevates will elevate the room to a remarkable room. Paint the other walls in a light color to enhance the bold ceiling.

Instead of the ceiling, you can choose a bold colored sofa set or couch as the focal point of the room. The rest of the room should be decorated in a subtle manner so as not to overwhelm with bold colors on everything. Even drapery panels in a striking color and pattern will entrance your visitors.

Mirror

Oversized lighting features

An oversized, interesting lighting feature is perfect to add dramatic focus to a room. Pendant lights or chandeliers are gorgeous focal points which add elegance and charm to the room.

Collections

Furniture as centerpiece

A coffee table or any other furniture can be the focal point depending on the shapes and sizes. If you want your coffee table with a striking decor element on it, then the rest of the furniture should be grouped around this focal point. The accents around the coffee table should be smaller. If you have a large couch, place it parallel to the coffee table so that both the elements are balanced.

Patterns

Artwork as the focal point

If you have a painting or sculpture, it can be the focal point of the room. The artwork should be mounted on a wall and should have dramatic lighting to make it even more eye-catching. It can be a piece of sculpture or a mural or a graphic on the wall, which would never fail to catch the attention of viewers.

Plants

PLANT

A huge plant or a collection of smaller plants can draw the attention. You have to consider the lighting when choosing your plants – choose those which have glossy leaves that can shine in the light. Healthy, flourishing plants are wonderful focal points.

Accent wall

The accent wall or feature wall is a good way to add a focal point to the room. Color it in a strong, bold color and mount some beautiful lights.

The focal point of a room will elevate your room to a stunning space which will impress all and make your room unforgettable.
