Global Warming To Hit The Swiss Alps Badly

A new research by the World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS) predicted that Europe’s Alps could lose three-quarters of their glaciers due to climate change during the coming century.

From the 1970s until 2000 Alps have lost 8.2% of glaciers per decade and the figure has increased since 1985.

What the Swiss Alps is about to witness is a 340mts increase in the glacier altitude with an associated loss of 75% in the glaciated area. This in turn will cost the people dearly as the glaciers are freshwater reservoirs storing winter snowfall for drinking and agriculture during summer as all of it would get wasted during spring gush.

However, with a prediction of increased 3C summer temperature the situation is doomed to get worse.
