Giant panda not in the extinction brink!

The giant panda is not on the brink of extinction! Past surveys underestimated its populations to have been left at about 1,000, but there, actually, may be as many as 3,000 pandas left in the wild, according to a research.

As reported in Current Biology, if conservation efforts continue, this population number could be restored in the reserves, scientists believe. Once inhabited much of China, the panda now, is found only in the forested mountain areas of the country.

The scientists explain on why accurate censuses could not be conducted. It is the elusive and wary nature of the animal that has made it difficult.
