Finnish artist utilizes discarded shirts to create suspended eco installation

Environmentalists are doing their level best to inspire the masses about adopting a green lifestyle. They incessantly keep voicing their opinions to shake those heavy-eyed, indifferent souls who somehow don’t seem to listen to their “fair” cries. Then, we have eco artists who complement their efforts by coming up with amazing eco-themed installations, artworks and sculptures so that people should hear environmentalists’ valid assertions. Finland-based Kaarina Kaiakkonen, who happens to be both an environmentalist and artist, has accordingly created a number of site-specific installations by using several cast-off shirts, which aim to highlight the need for recycling.

Her recent installation, dubbed as ‘Are We Still Going On?’, is on public display at Collezione Maramotti, in Reggio Emilia, Italy. The mega installation is made from hundreds of children’s shirts, which resembles the inner hull of a colossal ship. Equally inspiring are her previous artworks, which you can see suspended above streets and inside other warehouse spaces.

Check out some wonderful images and a video to see if her art is inspirational enough to make people think about recycling:
