Wasteful and unregulated methods of fishing are devastating. The Spanish fishermen are exactly doing the same with the stocks of deep-water sharks in the northeast Atlantic. They are using ruinous and unrestrained processes leaving more than half of their catch to decay, an investigation by Irish, Norwegian and British marine experts reveals. According to this year’s reports, the trawlers, in hopes of making maximum profits are frequently leaving nets unattended for weeks, rather months. The experts fear the practice may have wiped out four-fifths of two endangered species, — the leaf-scale gulper shark and the siki shark, also known as the Portuguese dogfish.
