European States Asked to Give Renewed Impetus to a Common Energy Policy

To ensure sustainable and secure supplies, European states must give renewed impetus to a common energy policy. The European commission said this. A commission green paper said, “Many markets remain largely national, and dominated by a few companies… Many differences remain between member states’ approaches to market opening, preventing the development of a truly competitive European market.”

The EU’s energy sector’s liberalization began six years ago. Despite this, blocking attempts to forge a common energy policy, countries such as France and Spain still harbor the desire to see strong “national champions”.

A new European energy regulator is proposed by the green paper that would work together with national operators. And it would be able to dictate common rules and approaches.
