Dipping temperatures worsen indoor air pollution!

winter causes more indoor air pollution 9Do you know when you are settling into your warm cozy homes, with the temperatures dipping outside, you are doing much more than just enjoying your holidays? – You might be poisoning yourself!

The Environmental Protection Agency warns that indoor air pollution is one of the top five most urgent environmental risks to public health! And precisely, its risk can rise in winter! It is because, people during winters tend to keep their houses’ windows and doors shut tight, unwittingly trapping unhealthy air inside!

Dr. Richard Potts, pulmonologist with Prevea Health said,

The most common cause of poor indoor air quality is smoking… There are 6,000 different chemicals in cigarette smoke.

Secondly, closed-up houses can mean carbon monoxide problems from appliances, furnaces or water heaters that are not properly ventilated.

This can risk children with asthma, bronchitis, ear infections and more with molds, dust and dust mites being other irritants during the season.
