The already starved Dead Sea of fresh water, it is now dying of an increasingly tense political situation! Environmentalists fear its disappearance. The landscape around the Dead Sea is bare and sun-baked. Bordered by Israel, Jordan and the West Bank, it is the lowest point on earth has been trough ages fed by the fresh water of river Jordan.
But, for the past two decades, the water level of the Dead Sea has reduced by one meter (three feet)! But, why and how?! The Jordan River’s fresh water has been systematically diverted for agricultural and hydroelectric projects. And to add to, the evaporation basin for farming the Dead Sea minerals has reduced the water level to that level.
