Crude Oil Spills from Transit Line in Alaska Making Breathing Dangerous

Poisonous fumes from the spilling crude oil are making the cleanup work tougher for the crew. It is from a pipe transit line at Prudhoe Bay on Alaska’s North Slope, the crude oil spilled Thursday. And the clean up works are getting slower than requires as the fumes are too much for the crew to work efficiently.

More than 200 miles (322 kilometers) east of Barrow, the oil could be seen on the snow-covered tundra. The oil was pooling on the frozen ground, Alaska Department of Conservation spokeswoman Lynda Giguere said.

Though the spill was discovered early Thursday morning by BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. operators, the cause had not been determined yet, and it was also unclear how much oil had spilled.
