Climate Warming Impact on Polar Ice Sheets Confirmed: NASA Survey

melting polar ice5

We all know by now that the massive ice sheets covering both Greenland and Antarctica are melting dramatically. And global warming is to be blamed for this. But, NASA scientists made the most comprehensive survey ever undertaken. They confirm climate warming is changing how much water remains locked in Earth’s largest storehouses of ice and snow.

The survey specifically shows that there was a net loss of ice from the combined polar ice sheets between 1992 and 2002, resulting in a corresponding rise in sea level. Extensive thinning of the West Antarctic ice shelves, an increase in snowfall in the interior of Greenland and thinning at the edges is documented for the first time by the survey. These are predicted by computer models and all are signs of a warming climate!
